Dig Out The Spooky Tales Behind Cursed Village: Kuldhara

Abandoned villages and towns hold a very different charm from the ruins of castles and forts, as they give us a chance to discover the lives of people who once colonized there. Being a desert region, Rajasthan has no dearth of ghost towns but few of them have got so much attention as Bhangarh and Kuldhara. Lying 17 km West of Jaisalmer, their were many spooky tales behind the cursed village: Kuldhara.

The once prosperous village is now nothing more than a few stone ruins. Some two-three years back in Jaisalmer people were abundantly rich and highly cultured. But their were many dark stories that answers the question..Why and How did an entire village became abandoned overnight and is now haunted?. So, let's scroll till the end to dig out such stories.

The 3 Spooky Tales about Abandoned Village in Jaisalmer.

• Audacity of Salim Singh- The first version of story is widely accepted, suggested that the entire community left to avoid oppression from a ruthless and unfair ruler. As the story goes, the Diwan of Jaisalmer, Salim Singh, was collecting large sums of money from Paliwal Brahmin (inhabitants of Kuldhara) in form of heavy taxes. He crossed his limits when his lusty eyes were set on a beautiful 15 year old girl in Kuldhara.

Moreover many of say that, he commanded the villagers to hand over the girl within 10 days, while some says that he gave only one day to accept his proposal. Instead of submitting to the order of the Diwan, the Paliwal's had a council and people of 84 villages left their ancestral homes and vanished. But this was not all, before leaving they placed a curse on Kuldhara that, no one will ever be able to settle in their village thereafter. To this date; the Village remains barren and no-one ever settled here in the past 200 years. [Nobody knows how did the whole community just vanish overnight]

• Increasing Taxes- The second version for the same story is that, Diwan Salim Singh, increases the taxes on Paliwal people. As they were not able to pay such high taxes to Diwan, one night all the heads of 84 villages decided to migrate secretly. They borrowed important equipments and accessories, and left behind the rest of things as it is. When next day Diwan visited Kuldhara, the whole area was abandoned and nobody knows where the whole community escaped.

• Cruelty Of Invaders- Kuldhara was located on the trade routes as well as the ports of Gujarat, hence they earned well due to levied taxes from the Caravans. The invaders from North passed through this area on way to loot Gujarat in general. To escape the wrath of invading armies the vulnerable villages on the plains were abandoned by its inhabitants, because apart from looting the invaders captured men, women and children as slaves. So that's a kind of another reason for hiding of Kuldhara's People.

Statements of Paranormal Researchers.
  • In May 2013, a paranormal researchers team decided to spend a night at this place. They confirmed that there is definitely something Spooky about this place that evening.
  • They tried to film this well with the help of drone cameras, but the drone malfunctioned on reaching over the well and suddenly fell to the ground.
  • The team even confirmed that their equipment had captured some inhuman frequencies and when the entire team came back to their vehicles after completing the work, they were in for the biggest surprise. All the cars including the hood and top were covered by hand prints of children.

  • The researchers used an equipment named "Ghost Box", to communicate with spirits and used K-2 metre device to measure the sudden temperature change in their surroundings. Moreover, they confirmed that spirit responds them and they also feel instantly dropped temperature.
  • At last, the team could not concretely establish or deny the ghost phenomenon, but they sure did helped the villagers dismissed the notion associated with the village.
Conclusion.
Kuldhara is a desolate place with a forlorn look and brings sadness to the heart when one thinks of those unfortunate people who were forced to leave the land of their forefathers. Kuldhara today is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India as a Heritage site. It is still as the people left it. Not a single thing moved not a well shedded. Due to it's appearance it was termed as haunted place.
