The Unsung Martyr: Baba Harbhajan Singh and his Mysterious Spirit

 Baba Harbhajan Singh, an Indian Army soldier,[also known as The Hero of Nathula], from Punjab Regiment who served for India even after his death, slams his existence across Indo-China border. The most fascinating thing about this sepoy is that, the spirit of Late Harbhajan Singh Ji's guards the Indo-China border and helps the soldiers from enemies.

It's a kind of mystery, that a respected soldier still is on his duty for his country and also a proud mystery for Indians that they have such a brave soldier, who pays his work with full promptness and loyalty. Let's discuss some of the miracles which are hard to believe but brings many questions in our mind.

1. Story of Baba Harbhajan Singh's Death.

• Harbhajan Singh Ji got recruited as a soldier in Amritsar and Joined the Punjab Regiment at the age of 22. Later he was transferred to 18 Rajput Regiment, where he worked hard for next 3 years.
• In 1968, during Sino-Indo war, he was posted to Nathu La mountain pass situated in Eastern Sikkim, where many battles took place in between India and China.
• However, one day when he was carrying goods and supplies for the army members, he slipped accidentally and was drowned in a glacier. His body got carried 2 kms away from the site. 
• Now the intersting thing is that, he himself helped his unit to discover his body for cremation, by coming in an officer's dream. Well it's difficult to believe, but these are mysterious claims. 
  
• Many claims, that he paid a visit to one of his friends dream and asked him to built a shrine in his name. And that's how the Sepoy Harbhajan Singh became Baba Harbhajan Singh. 

2. Mysterious Miracles perform by Harbhajan Singh Ji. 

• It was believed that soldier Harbhajan Singh continuously performing his duty on border. For this he is paid a salary and also promoted as per rules. He has also has a rank in Army.
• The legend has become so popular that a special reservation for a baba is actually made and his berth left empty for the entire journey to his home town every year. 
  
• Even after his death, he assisted his military brothers. His spirit warns the unit about any impending dangers at least 3 days in advance and helps the fellow Army officers in finding enemies.
• Many army officers also claimed that, Baba Harbhajan slapped them when they didn't maintain discipline across the border. He does the duty of keeping the soldiers on the night duty awake.
• Their is also a mystery that, he interacted to the Chinese army officer. Further the fascinating thing is that, the Chinese army wrote a letter to the Indians asking "who is this person doing the horse riding every night?". It's a kind of horrible statement.
• Every year on 11 September, the goods of Baba Harbhajan Singh are conveyed with full respect to the railway station New Jalpaiguri. And from there three soldiers and his good to his village. 
  

• Baba's Shoes and other belongings are kept in temple and everyday soldiers polish their shoes, clean their uniforms and also put their bed. 
• But on every next day, the soldiers stationed there is mud applied to the clean shoes and wrinkles are seen on their bed. 
• A small sum of money is also contributed by soldiers posted in Nathula to be send to his mother each month and even the Chinese also respect him that they leave a seat vacant for him at flag meetings.

 All these mystries and so called claims about Baba Harbhajan Singh is still believe by India as well as China. However no one knows the exact mystery behind these claims, but it's a kind of proud statement for us that we have such a brave soul that kept us safe by patrolling across border and it was truly said- A Soldier is Never Off Duty.
